Mercy Malaysia Coffers Get a Boost
Responding to MERCY Malaysia’s call to help raise RM3 million for its humanitarian and medical assistance efforts in aid of earthquake victims in Padang, Sumatera, Unilever Malaysia initiated the ‘Malaysian Favourites’ campaign at all Tesco stores nationwide.
The fund-raiser endeavour is yet another initiative in keeping with Unilever’s commitment to its ‘Vitality’ mission statement. Pledging a portion from the total sales of six popular Unilever brands – Sunsilk, Lifebuoy, Breeze, Lipton, Rexona and Planta – the monthlong campaign which was held from 29 July through 26 August raised RM40,000.
The collection was presented to Encik Mohd Shaharudin Asmani, MERCY Malaysia’s Acting General Manager, by Geoff Bellingham, Unilever Malaysia’s National Customer Development Manager at MERCY’s office recently.
“Although we are not able to be there physically at the disaster areas to assist with relief works, we hope this small donation will go a long way in providing sustainable humanitarian relief for the vulnerable communities and easing their needs. This is very much in line with our ‘Vitality’ mission to contribute towards charitable causes for the benefit of the communities we live in,” said Geoff at the cheque-presentation ceremony.
“In this regard, playing our role in generating funds to help MERCY Malaysia carry out its activities is something that we feel proud to do and we also wish to record our appreciation to the our loyal customers who generously contributed to the success of this campaign, without which our campaign objectives would not have been achieved,” he added.
