- Environmental sustainabilityAfter more than a decade of action, we continue to reduce the environmental impacts of our own operations – which extend to suppliers and consumers too
- Annapurna iodised saltIodine Deficiency Disorder is a global health issue. It affects 740 million people, including 30 percent of children under five in Africa who will never reach their full mental or physical potential. Annapurna is refined iodised salt sold in small, affordable sachets. It's the first product ever endorsed by the International Council for Control of IDD. Three years after launch in Ghana, over 50% of consumers have switched and we're now rolling it out elsewhere across the continent. Sometimes the simplest solution can make the biggest impact.
- Innovative technologyThrough understanding the nature of stains, we're developing innovative technology to make sure our detergents can deal with them. As well as selecting the best enzymes for the job, we've optimised the formula for each product with a new mix of polymers and surfactants that ensures we can remove hundreds of everyday stains without pre-treatment. We've also incorporated an effervescent action that cleans deep inside pockets and technology that ensures great results even at low temperatures.Improving our products means continually challenging accepted wisdom.

Act responsibly
- Sustainable livingUnilever and Wal-Mart have launched an environmental awareness campaign in Brazil. Sustainable show houses have been installed in the supermarket's stores, each with four sections – a garden, kitchen, laundry room and bathroom. Visitors hear messages and tips on how to lead a more eco-friendly life. They can also play interactive games to learn about recycling, natural resources and conservation. The houses are built from recycled and environmentally-friendly materials. Small changes in our living habits and shopping choices can have a huge impact on the environment and improve our lives.
- Prerana IssarHunger and malnutrition are still the biggest risk to the health of children worldwide, denying 400 million a good start in life. 'Together for Child Vitality' is our partnership with WFP that aims to improve the nutrition and health of poor school-aged children, as well as raise funds and increase awareness of the issue. This initiative offers our people stimulating ways to broaden their experience whilst at the same time giving something back. Our partnership with WFP builds on our long tradition as a responsible company, firmly rooted in local communities all around the world.
- Yellowstone ParkThe US National Parks' flagship initiative 'Recycling at Work' involves recycling plastic containers and converting them into lumber which is then used for building projects such as walkways, fences and picnic tables. To date, we have completed projects in more than 180 National Parks. In Yellowstone we used over four million plastic detergent bottles to create a boardwalk that helps guide visitors through the park. In 2004, we also donated $1.45 million towards a new education centre at the Old Faithful site.At Unilever, you'll find novel recycling solutions in the most unexpected places.

- Ampy AswinWhen I joined the newly set-up Regional Deodorant Supply Chain team responsible for setting up in Asia, we eventually set up the foundation of the organization, the structure, systems and ways of working. It was a really great achievement.

- Sally I led a team in Leading Competitive Cost Sourcing, where we tried to develop supply base for low cost ingredients from China and India to support our business across Europe. When we managed to make a mark of actually sourcing out from those geographic areas from where we’ve never sourced from, it was a very exciting moment especially as we both gained Quality and Cost advantage from the sourcing.
