Get to know your hair
A healthy hair strand has smooth cuticles. The layers are smooth along the hair and it can hold moisture better so it makes the hair soft, shiny and strong. When hair is slightly damaged however, the cuticle is slightly opened. This may happen if improper brush or comb is used. Damaged hair is when the cuticle is split and torn, unable to hold moisture, resulting in very dry hair. Frequent causes of damaged hair are over heating from sunlight or hair dryer, frequent perming and usage of products that contain damaging chemicals.
General hair care tips
- Use just enough shampoo to clean your hair and ensure you rinse thoroughly.
- While shampoo serves to clean your hair of dirt, use hair conditioner to smoothen your hair cuticle and hold moisture, making your hair softer, shinier and easier to manage.
- Apply conditioner only at the tips of your hair, avoiding the scalp and then leave for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly (if it’s not a leave-on conditioner).
- Towel-dry your hair gently after washing and before combing, to prevent breakage.
- Use a wide-toothed saw cut comb to minimize damage to your hair, starting from the tips and working your way up to the scalp.
Which New Sunsilk is Your New Sunsilk?
For normal hair (soft with a healthy shine), we recommend Sunsilk Black Shine Shampoo and Conditioner or Sunsilk Extra Mild Shampoo and any Sunsilk Conditioner. For oily hair (scalp feels oily and sticky), we have for you Sunsilk Clean & Fresh Shampoo and Conditioner or Sunsilk Extra Mild Shampoo and any Sunsilk Conditioner. And those of you with dandruff problems (itchy scalp with dry flakes) might want to test the effectiveness of Sunsilk Boket Shampoo and any Sunsilk Conditioner.
Tips to treat dry hair and split ends
Some reasons for dry hair: Sebaceous glands not producing enough oil, over exposure to heat, use of hair dryers, frequent colouring or perming, or hormonal changes. Avoid using hair dryers whenever possible because the heat tends to cause excessive dryness. If you have to use one, avoid using high temperature and do not put nozzle too close to your hair. If you have split ends, cut them off – then prevent them from occurring again by using a hair conditioner after shampooing to hold the moisture and coat the hair tip.
Tips to treat oily hair
Avoid massaging the scalp because it causes oil glands to produce more oil. Wash your hair more frequently to get rid of excessive oil. It will not cause your hair to become dry if you use the right products. Remember to complement your shampoo with a hair conditioner to keep your hair tips moisturized and free of split ends.
Tips to treat dandruff
Dandruff can be caused by many factors such as allergy to certain foods, products or even stress. Use the recommended dandruff control shampoo on alternate days until dandruff problem is under control. Note that SunSilk Moisturizing Dandruff Control shampoo is mild enough to be used everyday. When your dandruff goes away, switch to using shampoo for normal hair. If the problem persists or worsens however, see a specialist.
