Unilever Food Solutions and MBSA Combat Hygiene Issues Amongst Food Operators

SHAH ALAM: Further to its recent successful official launch of Chefmanship Academy in Malaysia, Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) is collaborating closely with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to uphold the well being of operators while focusing on hygiene for all food operators in the municipality.

Today's session is part of several planned for the next one year with the implementation involving a wide spectrum of food operators including restaurants, eateries and hawkers, being mandatory before they are given a licence to operate.

Chefmanship Academy is a first-of-its-kind initiative in Malaysia by a food service provider which covers over 100 topics, combining real world insights with industry research to offer hands-on learning experiences.

MBSA signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Unilever Food Solutions which is part of Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd on 7 July this year, represented by Shah Alam Mayor, Yang Berbahagia Dato' Hj Mohd Jaafar bin Hj Mohd Atan and Managing Director of Unilever Food Solutions Malaysia, Mr Matt Wilke.

The historic event was witnessed by Selangor Menteri Besar Yang Amat Berhormat Tan Sri Dato' Seri Abdul Khalid bin Ibrahim.

As one of the world's leading food service business, Unilever Food Solutions helps and works closely with chefs, business owners and operators in satisfying their guests with inspiring, great tasting yet healthy and nutritious food while maintaining food handling hygiene, which translates to the diners confidence in them which keeps them coming back for more.

Today, "eating out" trend has been increasingly popular among Malaysians with the increase of their busy lifestyle. Therefore, food hygiene is vital and now it is the responsibility of the food service industry as a whole to work together to raise this awareness on the prominence of food hygiene.

"Convenience or profit must not be allowed to compromise on this hygiene. We believe in giving back to the community and this reflects Unilever's global Sustainable Living Plan through which we hope to improve health, well-being and hygiene habits in Malaysia." said Mr Wilke.

"We are happy that our close partnership with MBSA continues after thelaunch of Chefmanship Academy and this reflects the passion and commitment to stimulate and address the needs of cleanliness and food hygiene as well as support the food operators under MBSA with ingredients, ideas and inspiration to do this.

"Chefmanship Academy will be able to bring together a wide spectrum of interests with the aim of enhancing consumer awareness of food hygiene issues and encourage operators to practise a responsible way of doing business," Mr Wilke said.

In partnership with MBSA, Chefmanship Academy offers an innovative food hygiene training opportunity to first level food handlers. The module covers a wide range of topics, which include personal hygiene safe food handling, menu planning and efficiency in cost management.

The Chefmanship Centre will serve as the training ground for chefs as well as food operators to enhance their culinary skills and expertise to offer the best solutions to chef, business owners and food operators.
