Turning Dreams Into Reality with Sunsilk

Sunsilk seeks to inspire and provide young hijabis a platform to realise their dreams

Turning Dreams Into Reality with Sunsilk

Kuala Lumpur, 11 August 2015 – Every young hijabi has a dream she wants to achieve just like any girl – an ambition to fulfil and a story to tell. Sunsilk has always been committed to empowering hijabis to achieve their dreams and share their untold stories. This year, Sunsilk is collaborating with Astro to provide young, aspiring hijabis a platform to realise their ambition through its campaign, Kecapi Impianku bersama Sunsilk.

Many unique and inspiring stories of young hijabis remain untold. Sunsilk knows this, and with this campaign, is taking a step forward in sharing the success stories of a select few role models – singer Najwa Latif, director Melissa Saila and broadcast journalist Khairunnisa Kasnoon – to inspire young hijabis to take charge of their own destinies and help steer them in the right direction. Each of these role models will be taking a young protégé under their wing, mentoring them within their respective industries.

This collaboration with Astro will see three hijabis chosen to embark upon this life-changing journey – one for each of the mentors, Najwa, Melissa and Khairunnisa, to guide in their respective industries of music, film and broadcast journalism. The candidates must show that they are passionate about achieving an ambition within the music, film or journalism industry. The three selected finalists will not be competing; instead they will be taken on a journey to learn from their assigned mentors.

These young protégés’ journey alongside their mentors will be documented on a series of short episodes. The episodes will give people a glimpse into the candidates’ experiences learning from Najwa, Melissa and Khairunnisa, telling the story of how these young hijabis are empowered to achieve their dreams. There will be a total of 10 episodes aired on hlive! and uploaded to Astro Gempak’s website. The Kecapi Impianku bersama Sunsilk episodes will be aired as five-minute special segments in hlive! every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 8.30pm starting 14 October 2015, exclusively on Astro Ria (Channel 104) and Astro Awani (Channel 501).

“For a young woman to go after her dreams and achieve them, there are two things she needs – an opportunity and a gorgeous head of hair. This is the reason behind our campaign. Sunsilk has always been tirelessly working to empower young hijabis, and the Kecapi Impianku bersama Sunsilk campaign, paired with Sunsilk Lively Clean & Fresh, our hair care range made specifically for hijabis, we want to provide these young women the chance to realise their ambitions and the confidence to seize that chance,” said Phoenix Ho, Senior Brand Manager, Total Hair, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn. Bhd.

There is a link between outward appearances and inner confidence for women. The confidence that comes from having beautiful hair can be very empowering for women. Subsequently, the confidence that comes from having a clean and fresh scalp, can be just as empowering for hijabis. In understanding this need, Sunsilk co-created Lively Clean & Fresh with Dr Francesca Fusco, a world renowned scalp care expert. Enriched with Vitamin Citrus ComplexTM, this variant removes build-up of excess scalp sebum, refreshing the scalp in just one wash.

This year, Sunsilk Lively Clean & Fresh comes with an improved fragrance, with lime extract and a new citrus fragrance. It now has a stronger and longer-lasting fragrance, designed to give hijabis a clean and fresh scalp that leaves them feeling fresh and comfortable all day long, free to pursue their dreams.

“At Astro, we constantly listen to our viewers who are always searching for the best programmes through our various channels. This is in line with our commitment to provide only the best television viewing experience to all our customers.

We acknowledge the rise of more successful hijab wearers who have gone through a great deal in achieving their dreams. Through the success stories of these inspiring hijab wearers, we hope to motivate other aspiring young women to persevere in their journey of realising their own dreams. Astro is proud to collaborate with Sunsilk in this campaign and provide young women with the resources to kick start their journey towards success.

We are positive that Kecapi Impianku bersama Sunsilk will receive good feedback as the content is inspiring and something people can relate to,” said Raqim Ahmad, Channel Manager of Astro Ria.

With confidence that comes from having a clean and fresh feeling scalp, talented young hijabis can now vie for the opportunity to take their first step into the industry of their choice – be it music, film or journalism. The brand is looking for hijabis aged 18 to 29 years old, who are determined and passionate about achieving their dreams in the music, film or journalism industry. The Kecapi Impianku bersama Sunsilk call for entries open on 11 August 2015, and will close on 6 September 2015. Entries can be submitted via the Astro Gempak online website. Entries will also be accepted during Kecapi Impianku bersama Sunsilk roadshows. There will be two on-ground recruitment events, where women can meet the mentors in person:

  1. Setia City Mall on 22 August 2015, 5pm to 6pm
  2. Putrajaya Allamanda Mall on 29 August 2015, 5pm to 6pm
